General Overview and Pricing
Purchasing a whole pig from Willowbrook Farms is a high-quality investment in your family’s food supply. Your order is based on a 200-pound hanging weight. The cost for the meat is $6.00 per pound, totaling $1,200. In addition to the meat cost, there is a $400 butcher fee, which covers professional processing, packaging, and the 2.5-hour long-haul transport required to reach our specialized processor. The total estimated project cost is $1,600. Once your $250 deposit is applied, the remaining balance due at the time of completion will be approximately $1,350.
Yield and Freezer Storage
It is important to distinguish between "hanging weight" and "take-home weight." The hanging weight is the weight of the animal before it is trimmed into specific cuts. You can expect a yield of roughly 70–75%, resulting in approximately 140 to 150 pounds of meat for your freezer. To store this volume of pork safely, we recommend having at least 8 cubic feet of freezer space available (the equivalent of a small-to-medium chest freezer).
Custom Butchering
A cut sheet will be provided to you so that your order is customized to your family's needs. You will have the opportunity to go over this sheet with the butcher to discuss specific preferences, such as the thickness of your pork chops, the size of your roasts, and which items you would like smoked or cured (such as bacon, hams, and hocks).
Logistics: Pickup, Delivery, and Shipping
We offer three convenient ways to receive your order. On-farm pickup is always free at our farm located at 19585 Bulhand St, Cassopolis, MI. For those nearby, we offer local delivery for customers within a 45-mile radius of the farm. If you require shipping, please be aware that a whole pig cannot fit into a single box; the order will be divided into several different boxes with specialized insulation and cooling. We will need to discuss your specific shipping needs directly to provide an accurate cost estimate.
